Beschichtete Messkolben sind beim Umgang mit gefährlichen und/oder wertvollen Lösungen sehr empfehlenswert. Die Körper dieser Kolben sind mit einer speziell zusammengesetzten Beschichtung ausgestattet, die bei Bruch die Auswirkungen reduziert und auch mögliche Risiken minimiert. Die Beschichtung deckt den Körper wie ein Schutzhandschuh ab und hält die gebrochenen Teile zusammen. Die Beschichtung ist sehr transparent und kann Temperaturen bis zu 135°C über eine maximale Dauer von 30 Minuten standhalten. Sie sollten nicht direkt mit einer offenen Flamme in Berührung kommen. Alle anderen technischen Spezifikationen sind identisch mit den Standardmesskolben.

Die beschichteten Messkolben sollten nur bis 135 °C und für eine halbe Stunde erhitzt werden.
